Contemporary art is a highly diverse and vibrant field that embraces a variety of artistic practices and voices. Among the many styles and genres that contribute to this rich tapestry is Outsider art sometimes referred to as Art brut, contemporary art brut, naïve art, or raw art. Outsider artists are generally self-taught artists coming from outside the framework of more traditional academic art.
These modes of expression are often characterized by their authenticity, unconventional techniques, and unique perspectives, which challenge established norms and conventions. Whether through the childlike innocence of naive art or the rawness and spontaneity of art brut, these artists remind us that there are many ways to approach creativity and that true artistry can emerge from unexpected sources. Their work inspires us to look beyond the boundaries of the art world and to appreciate the richness and diversity of human experience.

On this website you can find artworks by me, Simon J Houlton. A self-taught artist of the Outsider art tradition. I’m autodidactic and just paint whatever pleases me without caring much for any restrictions.
Original artworks are available directly through this website, as well as some merchandise the sales of which help to support me.
