Description
Melancholia oil painting in the style of Cubism. I painted this back in 2022, The composition has remained as originally intended but I played around a bit with the colours as the original was mostly entirely black, white and purple and wasn’t quite as contrasting.
I remixed the colours a bit whilst retaining the original composition. Interestingly it doesn’t matter what colours you change, he still manages to look listless and lost in a deep well of overwhelming sadness.
I called it Melancholia specifically because I was trying to capture the feeling of how utterly soul destroying clinical depression is. I think I have been fairly successful in this endeavour.
This piece was part of my solo exhibition Windows/Pencereler in Eskişehir, February 2023.
Mounted on a stretcher frame and ready to hang.
