Windows to the Soul

Description

Windows to the Soul – oil on canvas. The concept of the piece is fairly straightforward, to capture an expression in a fairly limited amount of black lines, with contrasting colours between the background and foreground. I wanted the composition to look bold to the point of brutality (in line with some of my other pieces) but also to express something shifting within the emotional state of the depicted, hence the paint runs and colour choice.
This piece is a companion piece to the painting titled Arkana Bakma.
The right eye represents a window in reference to the saying that ‘the eyes are the windows to the soul’.
The technique includes scraps, scratches, and runs as well as more traditional brushwork.
